Do you want to know more about Sarah Palin? Here is what wikipedia says about Palin:

Sarah Louise Heath Palin (pronounced /ˈpeɪlɪn/; born February 11, 1964) is the governor of the U.S. state of Alaska.

Palin was a member of the Wasilla, Alaska, city council from 1992 to 1996 and the city’s mayor from 1996 to 2002. After an unsuccessful campaign for lieutenant governor of Alaska in 2002, she chaired the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission from 2003 to 2004. She was elected governor of Alaska in November 2006 by defeating Frank Murkowski, the incumbent governor, in the Republican primary, and then defeating Tony Knowles, a former two-term Democratic governor, in the general election. She is the first female governor of Alaska and the youngest person elected governor.

Palin was the Republican Party’s vice-presidential nominee for the 2008 United States presidential election together with Senator John McCain. The election was won by Democratic candidates Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Palin was the second female candidate and the first Alaskan candidate of either major party, as well as the first female vice-presidential nominee of the Republican Party.

Early life and education

Palin was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, the third of four children of Sarah Heath (née Sheeran), a school secretary, and Charles R. Heath, a science teacher and track coach.[6][7] The family moved to Alaska when she was an infant. As a child, she sometimes went moose hunting with her father before school. The family regularly ran 5 km and 10 km races.[8]

Palin attended Wasilla High School in Wasilla, located 44 miles (71 km) north of Anchorage.[9] She was the head of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at the school and the point guard and captain of the school’s girls’ basketball team that won the Alaska state championship in 1982.[8][10]

In 1982, she enrolled at Hawaii Pacific College, but left after her first semester. She transferred to North Idaho community college, where she spent two semesters as a general studies major. From there, she transferred to the University of Idaho for two semesters.[11][12] During this time Palin won the Miss Wasilla Pageant,[13][14] then finished third in the 1984 Miss Alaska pageant,[15][16] at which she won a college scholarship and the “Miss Congeniality” award.[8] Afterwards, Palin attended the Matanuska-Susitna community college in Alaska for one term. The next year she returned to the University of Idaho where she spent three semesters completing her Bachelor of Science degree in communications-journalism, graduating in 1987.[11][12]

In 1988, she worked as a sports reporter for KTUU-TV and KTVA-TV in Anchorage, Alaska,[17] and for the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman as a sports reporter.[18] She also helped in her husband’s commercial fishing family business.[19]

City council of Wasilla

Palin was elected twice to the city council of Wasilla, in 1992 and 1995. Wasilla city councillors serve three-year terms.[20] Palin says she entered politics because she was concerned that revenue from a new Wasilla sales tax would not be spent wisely.[21]

Palin’s first foray into politics was in 1992, when the 28-year-old ran for Wasilla city council against John Hartrick, a local telephone company worker.[22][23] She won 530 votes to John Hartrick’s 310.[22] On the council, she successfully opposed a measure to curtail the hours at Wasilla’s bars by two hours, which surprised Hartrick because she was then a member of a church that advocated abstinence from alcohol.[22] After serving on the city council for three years, she ran for reelection against R’nita Rogers in 1995, winning 413 votes to Rogers’ 185.[24]

According to Laura Chase of Wasilla, and former Wasilla mayor John Stein, Palin as city councilwoman mentioned to her colleagues in 1995 that she saw the book Daddy’s Roommate in the public library and did not think that it belonged there. Chase later became Palin’s campaign manager for mayor in 1996, when Palin defeated John Stein, but the two had a falling out and Chase is now a vocal critic of Palin.[25] City of Wasilla Library records indicate that there was never a request for the library to remove the book and that no books were ever censored or banned.[26] The McCain-Palin campaign says that Palin was not advocating censorship.[27]

Palin did not complete her second term on the city council because she ran for mayor in 1996. Throughout her tenure on the city council and the rest of her career, Palin has been a registered Republican.[28]

Peggy Noonan (born Margaret Ellen Noonan on September 7, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York) is an author of seven books on politics, religion and culture, a weekly columnist for The Wall Street Journal, and was a primary speech writer and Special Assistant to President Ronald Reagan. She is considered a political conservative.

She is a graduate of Rutherford High School in Rutherford, New Jersey, and Fairleigh Dickinson University.[1]

Five of Noonan’s books have been New York Times bestsellers. Noonan is a Trustee of the Manhattan Institute. She has been awarded honorary doctorates from Miami University, St. John Fisher College, her alma mater Fairleigh Dickinson University, Adelphi College, and Saint Francis College. She was nominated for an Emmy Award for her work on America: A Tribute to Heroes.

Personal

Noonan married Richard W. Rahn, who was then chief economist at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in 1985. They lived in Great Falls, Virginia. Their son Will was born in 1987.[2]

Noonan and her husband were divorced after five years of marriage. In 1989 she returned with her son to her native New York. In 2004, according to an interview with Crisis Magazine, she lived in a brownstone in Brooklyn Heights with her son, who attended a high school nearby. [3]

Noonan currently lives in New York City.[4]

Famous speeches

In 1984, Noonan, as a speechwriter for President Reagan, authored his “Boys of Pointe du Hoc” speech on the 40th anniversary of D-day. She also wrote Reagan’s address to the nation after the Challenger explosion, drawing upon the poet John Magee’s famous words about aviators who “slipped the surly bonds of earth… and touched the face of God.” She worked too on a tribute President Reagan gave to honor John F. Kennedy, at a fundraising event, held at the McLean, Virginia home of Senator Edward M. Kennedy in the spring of 1984.

Later, while working for then-Vice President George H. W. Bush, Noonan coined the phrase “a kinder, gentler nation” and also popularized “a thousand points of light”, two memorable catchphrases used by Bush. Noonan also wrote the speech in which Bush pledged: “Read my lips: no new taxes” during his 1988 presidential nomination acceptance speech in New Orleans (Bush’s subsequent reversal of this pledge is often cited as a reason for his defeat in his 1992 re-election campaign).

Current work

Noonan is now an author, a columnist for The Wall Street Journal, and a commentator on news shows. Noonan is a member of the Manhattan Institute’s board of trustees.

In mid-August 2004, Noonan took a brief, unpaid leave from the Wall Street Journal to campaign for George W. Bush’s reelection. Noonan has become increasingly critical of the Bush administration since Bush’s inaugural address in January 2005.[5][6]

Before the Reagan years, she worked as daily CBS Radio commentary writer for anchorman Dan Rather at CBS News, whom she once called “the best boss I ever had.” From 1975 through 1977 she worked the overnight shift as a newswriter at WEEI Radio in Boston, where she was later Editorial and Public Affairs Director.

She has worked as a contributor on the American television drama, The West Wing.

Noonan frequently cites the political figures she admires, including Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, Edmund Burke and Samuel D. Jackson.

Criticism of Gov. Sarah Palin

On an appearance on MSNBC with Mike Murphy on September 3, 2008, Noonan was caught questioning the choice of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate after her mic was accidentally left on.[7] In the conversation she said that “it’s over,” and “the most qualified? No! I think they [the Republicans] went for this — excuse me — political bullshit about narratives…” This came after an article published earlier that morning in the Wall Street Journal in which she called Palin a “a real and present danger to the American left, and to the Obama candidacy.” Later that day, she explained in an addendum to the online version of the column that “It’s over” referred not to the McCain campaign, but rather to the time when Republicans could “assume that [their] base is utterly in line with the thinking of the American people”. She also apologized for use of the profanity, adding that her skepticism at the McCain campaign’s reason for selecting Palin did not mean that Noonan herself opposed Palin.

Several weeks later, Noonan wrote a scathing column about Palin’s vice presidential candidacy in the Wall Street Journal. In the opinion piece, Noonan expressed her view that Palin does not demonstrate “the tools, the equipment, the knowledge or the philosophical grounding one hopes for, and expects, in a holder of high office” and labeled the Republican vice presidential candidate “a follower” and “not a leader.” Noonan also criticized Palin’s decision to sequester herself from non-partisan media. Noonan concluded by denouncing Palin’s candidacy as a “vulgarization in American Politics” that is “no good…for conservatism…[or] the country” and which is a “mark against John McCain, against his judgment and idealism”.
